A 1965 etching by the German-American artist Robert Ernst Marx (1925-2020). This etching is from a portfolio etchings by Marx titled Encounters with poems by Daniel Berrigran and published in New York by Associated American Artists. The etching depicts a figure with pensive expression blending into the shadowy background. Signed and dated to the lower right, the print is numbered 21/60 to the lower left and is displayed in white mat and white frame.
Born in Northeim, Germany, Robert Ernst Marx was a German-American fine artist who created oil paintings, drawings, bronze casted sculptures, and etchings. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Illinois during the 1950s. His works are in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Corcoran Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of Art, the Hirschhorn Museum of Art, among others.
