An abstract ink drawing by the Lithuanian-American artist Ben Shahn (1898-1969). This abstract work depicts a stylized portrait of a British judge wearing a court wig. Signed to the lower right, a gallery tag to the verso titles the work Judge with Wig. The drawing is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and an off-white mat.

Shahn was a Lithuanian-born American artist best known for his passionate political advocacy and social-realist style depicting American life. During World War II he created political posters as a member of the Office of War Information. Shahn studied at the National Academy of Design, New York University, City College of New York, and at the Academie de la Grand Chaumiere in Paris. A prolific artist and teacher known for Social-realist artforms, Shahn is represented in over 60 museums and his works are held in numerous public and private collections. Titles of some of his most famous works are Lucky Dragon, Register, Vote, and Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti.
