A 1965 limited edition etching by the American artist Robert Ernst Marx (1925-2020). This etching is from a portfolio etchings by Marx titled Encounters with poems by Daniel Berrigran and published in New York by Associated American Artists. The etching depicts a crow or other black bird looking down. Signed and dated to the lower right, the print is numbered 21/60 to the lower left and is displayed in a black frame and a white mat.

 

Born in Northeim, Germany, Robert Ernst Marx was a German-American fine artist who created oil paintings, drawings, bronze casted sculptures, and etchings. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Illinois during the 1950s. His works are in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Corcoran Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of Art, the Hirschhorn Museum of Art, among others.
