A 1970 signed abstract serigraph print by the German-American artist Jimmy Ernst (1920-1984). Titled Domain of Silence, this abstract serigraph print features an array of red and blue layered designs with black rectangle in the background. Titled to the verso, the print is signed, dated, and numbered 35/150 along the lower edge.
Born in Cologne, Germany as Hans Ulrich Ernst, Jimmy Ernst was the son of Modern artist Max Ernst and art historian Luise Straus-Ernst. Jimmy, whose mother was Jewish, was able to flee Nazi Germany in 1938 and immigrate to the United States. In 1942, Ernst was the director of Peggy Guggenheim's The Art of This Century gallery. In 1950, he was a part of the famous "Irascible Eighteen," along with Abstract Expressionist artists Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, who protested the exhibition policy of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ernst's works are part of numerous collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Brooklyn Museum of Fine Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, as well as others.
