Josef Sima 1967 “Abstract Window” Etching from “Paroles Peintes III”

An etching titled Abstract Window by the Czech artist Josef Sima (1891-1971). Unsigned and unnumbered, this etching was pulled from the publication Paroles Peintes III (Painted Words III) published in Paris by Éditions O. Lazar-Vernet in 1967. The etching depicts a five-sided window with light streaming through it to illuminate a dark space. The print is displayed in a black frame and a cream mat and is marked "Sima, Paroles Peintes, Ech. Ed. 200” to the verso.

Born in Jaromer in the Czech Republic, Sima graduated from the Academy of Arts in Prague. In 1921, he moved to Paris and later became a French citizen. He was a student of Jan Preisler, the Czech artist. Sima was also artistic director of the journal Le Grand Jeu.
