A 1957 mixed media painting by the American artist Robert Ray (1926-2020). This bold abstract work has a colorful background with strong black lines that form geometric shapes. Signed and dated to the bottom edge, the painting is displayed in a white mat and wooden frame.
Born in Elwood, Indiana, Ray attended the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. After spending time abroad in Spain and Italy in 1953, he studied under Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, Massachusetts at Hoffman's School of Fine Art. Ray was also a writer and poet with several published books. In addition to being an artist, Ray also ran an interior decorating business in Indianapolis.
