Walter Sorge Signed “Seated Figure” Limited Edition Abstract Color Etching

A color etching of an abstract figure in an interior entitled Seated Figure by Canadian artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). The purple and orange striped figure is seated next to an end table with a plant sitting on top of it. Thick and thin repeated lines in orange, pink, and purple draw the viewer's eye through the work. The work is signed "Sorge," numbered 26/40, and titled to the lower edge.

Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.
