A watercolor and gouache mixed media painting on paper by Canadian artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). The painting features abstracted muted blue, green, and blush tones against a variegated gray ground. The painting is presented behind glass with a white mat in a wooden frame. The piece is signed to the top right corner. 

Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.

Condition notes:

Some flaking to the paint to the lower left. Several tears present including top center and bottom center. Natural creasing and buckling to the paper. Scratches and other wear to the frame.
