Walter Sorge Signed 1994 “Amar Ben Ela’as at Night” Watercolor Painting

A 1994 watercolor painting entitled Amar Ben Ela'as at Night by Canadian artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). The Jerusalem city scene is depicted in purple, yellow, and green with the street lined with cars and flanked by ethereal lighting and indistinct architecture. The painting is signed "Sorge", titled, and dated "11/94" to the bottom right corner. 

Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.

Condition notes:

Wear to the edges with some creasing and a small tear in the border. Markings along the border and verso.
