An abstract acrylic on canvas painting by American artist James Cunningham (1948-1991). Signed and dated verso, this large-scale painting uses an airbrush technique, creating a gradation between colors. Vibrant blue, purple, pink, green, and cream transition into pastels and clean, straight lines are used to create distinctions between colors in this abstract work. The painting is gallery-wrapped and is without a frame.
James Cunningham was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and pursued careers in both art and science. He enjoyed making sculptures, paintings, theater sets, and more, completing an artist exchange at Rio Grande do Sul in the 1980s. Cunningham was killed in a helicopter crash in 1991.
