A 1977 limited edition serigraph titled Mecca III by American artist Robert Indiana (1928-2018). Printed on Arches 88 paper, this print depicts two mirrored 'M' shapes in red, orange, yellow, blue, and green. The word "MECCA" is repeated twice in blue and black within a yellow and red circle and orange diamond located at the center of the composition. The print is signed by Indiana, dated, titled, and numbered "21/50" to the lower edge. This print is referenced in the book Robert Indiana Prints: A Catalogue Raisonné 1951-1991 by the Susan Sheehan Gallery. According to the catalogue, MECCA III is from an edition of 50 with six artist's proofs and four printer's proofs printed as well.
This work is the third in a limited series of three prints inspired by Indiana's design for a basketball court commissioned by the Milwaukee Exposition Convention Center Arena (MECCA). This series of prints is closely based on Indiana's original maquette for the MECCA commission, which was completed using orange, blue, yellow, and red cut paper. This series of serigraphs was completed the same year as the court with Mecca I being the most similar to Indiana's final court design.
