Robert Ray 1970s Aquatint Print of a Nude Figure


A 1970s abstract aquatint of a nude figure by American artist Robert C. Ray (1926-2020). Unsigned, the print depicts a brown and off-white profile of a seated nude male torso. Displayed behind an off-white mat and green and gold tone wooden frame. 

Born in Elwood, Indiana, Ray attended the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. After spending time abroad in Spain and Italy in 1953, he studied under Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, Massachusetts at Hoffman's School of Fine Art. Ray was also a writer and poet with several published books. In addition to being an artist, Ray also ran an interior decorating business in Indianapolis.

Some scuffs to frame. Stray marks in margin. Other signs of age appropriate wear.
