Walter Stomps Signed 1959 “Seated Nude” Oil on Canvas Abstract Painting
A 1959 abstract oil on canvas painting by the American artist Walter Stomps (1929-2020). Titled Seated Nude, the painting depicts a seated nude female figure with wavy brown-red sitting on a bentwood chair. To the back of the figure fades an interior scene with what appears to be a green sofa in the background and a red, white, and orange wall. Displayed in a black wooden frame, the painting is signed, dated, and titled to the verso.
Walter Stomps, Jr. was born in Ohio and lived in Kentucky later in life. He completed his education at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1959 and then taught at the Middletown Fine Arts Center, Dayton Arts Institute, and Western Kentucky University.
