Arman 1976 “Romantic Suite” Lithograph Print

$298.00

A lithograph print by the French-American artist Arman (born Armand Fernandez; 1928-2005). From the artist's "Romantic Suite," this abstract work depicts a deconstructed guitar in blue, green, and black. Signed to the lower right, the print is numbered 75/100 to the lower left and is unframed.

Born in Nice, France, Arman's earliest artistic instruction was from his father who was an amateur artist and photographer. After studying mathematics and philosophy, Arman began studying at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice and later at the École du Louvre in Paris. He was known for his assemblages of everyday objects, incasing them in plexiglass or creating sculptures out of them. In 1960, he was one of the founding members of Nouveau Réalisme group, which also included Jean Tinguely,  Niki de Saint Phalle, and Christo. The Nouveau Réalisme sought to engage with real life and art in new ways, finding ways to directly incorporate the materials of modern life in art. Participating in over 500 exhibitions during his lifetime, Arman's works are held in the collections of the Tate Modern, London; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
