Bertil Vallien Kosta Boda Red Rim Brains Loving Cup Compote

A Red Rim "Brains" compote or loving cup designed by Swedish glass artist Bertil Vallien (born 1938) for Kosta Boda. This vase has a red rim with the rest of the glass having a blue striping. The stem has a face, covered in a gold foil with blue glass peeking out from under the surface. A Kosta Boda sticker is present and the vase is also signed “B. Vallien” to the underside. The piece is also marked “Kosta Boda B. Vallien 7091535” to the underside along the edge.
Bertil Vallien is a highly respected glass artist and designer. In the 1950s, he studied under Stig Lindberg at the art school Konstfack in Stockholm. Best known for his work at Kosta Boda, Vallien is celebrated for sand casted sculptures. Many of these sculptures have the repeated motif faces.
