A 1978 pastel and watercolor drawing of a nude figure by Italian-American artist Bruno Civitico (1942-2019). A nude male figure is depicted in a vibrant red scene, leaning forward on his knee in the mixed media drawing. Signed and dated to the lower right corner "CIVITICO 78", the drawing is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame behind cream mat.
Born in Italy in 1942 and immigrating to the United States with his family at the age of nine, Bruno Civitico is considered to be one of the most significant artists of the Neoclassical Figurative revival movement. Civitico earned his BFA in Fine Arts at Pratt Institute in 1966 and graduated from Indiana University with an MFA in 1968. As an instructor at Princeton, Temple, and the University of New Hampshire, Civitco became a prominent influence for artists including Jeanne Duval, Patrick Servedio, and Amy Weiskopf. Civitico is the recipient of many awards and honors and has been a featured artist in an impressive list of solo and group exhibitions.
