A 1959 oil on canvas painting titled Quince by mid-century Chicago artist Stanley Mitruck (1922-2006). Signed and dated to the top left, this still life painting depicts a grouping of quince in an obscure interior space depicted in blue, gray, and yellow tones. The painting is displayed in a wooden frame and signed, and dated verso with the artist tag.
Modernist artist Stanley Mitruck studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and at Jane Adamms Hull House under Julio De Diego. A highly-accomplished artist and educator, Mitruck was adept at printmaking, designing art installations, and creating costumes and sets for the Chicago Ballet Repertory Company and the Chicago Opera Company, as well as taking part in the renovation of significant historic sites.
