Dick Hay Postmodern Studio Pottery Vase

A Postmodern studio pottery vase by American artist Dick Hay (1942-2020). Unsigned, this red and black vase has incised designs, including incised polka dots in the black sections, as well as a brown grid pattern near the bottom of the vessel. An abstract blue squiggly line goes above the brown design. Another line design is incised inside of the vase.
Dick Hay is celebrated for forty-five years of actively creating and teaching art professionally. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Alfred University, New York State College of Ceramics. During his career he was an enviable lecturer that was invited to over one hundred art conferences and universities within the United States and abroad. Hay was the recipient of many awards including the "Excellence in Teaching Award" from the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts'. He has exhibited his work in over 200 exhibitions. Years before his death in an attempt to update his website he wrote, "I was cursed/blessed to express myself through making objects. And I feel obligated/driven/doomed/guilty if I don't do this daily."
