A porcelain girl relaxing designed by the Polish-American artist Lubomir Tomaszewski (1923-2018) for Cmielow Poland. The delicate figurine is reclining while wearing a black and white striped dress that tapers off to a point. The hair of the figure is black in contrast to its white porcelain skin. It is marked "Cmielow" to the underside.
Lubomir Tomaszewski graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in Poland before immigrating to New York City in the 1960s. He worked alongside established designers including Henryk Jędrasiak, Mieczysław Naruszewicz, and Hanna Orthwein. In 1963, his designs were exhibited at the International Exhibition of the Board of the Industrial Designers’ Association (ICSID) in Paris. Among his achievements is establishing an international art movement, Emotionalism, in 1994. Tomaszewski was part of 150+ individual and group exhibitions during his lifetime and was awarded highly.
