Masaharu Aoyama Japanese Woodblock Seascape

A woodblock print by the Japanese artist Masaharu Aoyama (1893-1969). The woodblock depicts a seascape in pale grayish blues, blacks and whites with water crashing against the rocks and foaming around them. The artist's chopmark stamp is found on the right lower corner of the piece. The print is displayed in an off-white mat and black wooden frame.

Masaharu Aoyama was a Japanese artist who studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. He was a student of ink painting and his work was connected with the Sosaku Hanga movement. Aoyama worked in the Imperial Household Museum until 1939.
