Michael Lax Hyalyn “Capri” for Raymor Candlestick Holders

mid-century pair of Capri candlestick holders designed by the American industrial designer Michael Lax (1929-1999) for Raymor. Each round white porcelain bowl-shaped candlestick holder sits upon a walnut base. The Capri line was originally introduced in the 1950s and features white porcelain and walnut pieces.

Michael Lax attended New York School of Music and Art, Alfred University, and studied Scandinavian modern design on a Fulbright Fellowship. Lax worked with Russel Wright and was widely known for designing many household products for Dansk and Lightolier, among others. The Lytegem lamp and enamel-coated tea kettle he designed are part of permanent Museum collections.

5.5” W x 3.25” H x 5.5” D.

Condition notes:

Some minor wear to the wood and some pinpoints in the glaze. Some extra discolored glue remnants present between the ceramic and wood. The ceramic for the two pieces have a slightly different hue, one is more cool-colored than the other. One of the holders has a small glaze scuff/scratch on the rim.
