Robert C. Ray Signed 1974 “Composition on human condition #2” Mixed Media Print

A 1974 mixed media print by the American artist Robert C. Ray (1926-2020). Titled Composition on human condition, the print on paper exhibits angular shapes and lines against a gray and pink background. The piece is displayed in a black frame with a cream mat and mounted on pink paper. The work is signed and dated to the lower right and is titled to the lower left.

Born in Elwood, Indiana, Ray attended the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. After spending time abroad in Spain and Italy in 1953, he studied under Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, Massachusetts at Hoffman's School of Fine Art. Ray was also a writer and poet with several published books. In addition to being an artist, Ray also ran an interior decorating business in Indianapolis.
