A 1963 abstract painting on paper by American artist Walter Stomps (1929-2020). The painting depicts a colorful composition with expressive brushstrokes. Signed and dated "STOMPS 63" to the upper right corner, the painting is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame behind a cream and navy blue double mat.

Walter Stomps, Jr. was born in Ohio and lived in Kentucky later in life. He completed his education at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1959 and then taught at the Middletown Fine Arts Center, Dayton Arts Institute, and Western Kentucky University.

 

Measurements:

39.25” W x 25.5” H x 1.25” D (frame); 28.75” W x 16” H (sight).

Condition notes:

Some scuffs and scratches to frame. There is some discoloration to the painting as well as a piece of paper transfer on one small part of the paint. A small area is also present where the paint has come off of the painting.  Other age appropriate wear.
