Savanah Glass Studio is a glass company owned and operated by Michael and Laura Thompson. The studio is located in Chicago, Illinois. Their process includes 2-4 kiln firings to adhere multiple layers onto the glass base. First, sheet glass is used to make the background design and fired at 1450°F. During this time, diachronic and opaque glasses may be layered over additional firings to create abstract designs. Next, the glass is manipulated while at 950°F, either for fusing or slumping. The kiln is gradually cooled while the glass sets. This process takes 22 hours. Lastly, a slow firing at 1250°F occurs to further form slumps and create uniformity by draping the glass over 2-4" steel pipes.
