Abbott Pattison Signed Abstract Gouache Painting

A gouache painting on paper by the American artist Abbott Pattison (1916-1999). Signed "A. Pattison" to the lower right, this vibrant abstract painting suggests a yellow landscape with blue and pink plants growing under green sky. The painting is displayed in a white frame and a white mat.

Born in Chicago, Pattison studied at Yale where he graduated with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After serving in the navy during World War II, he went on to teach at the North Shore Art League and the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as Maine's Skowhegan School of Art after he moved to Maine in 1993. Pattison's works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of Art in New York City, the San Francisco Museum of Art, as well as others.

Scratches, scuffs, and some discolored spots to the frame. Some flaking and craquelure to the paint.
