A 1961 oil on canvas painting by the American artist Beatrice “Bea” Gibson (1926-2019). Titled Greece, this bright abstract painting depicts a garden with white stucco buildings in the background and a cloudless blue sky above. Signed to the lower right, the painting is also signed, dated, and titled to the verso and is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame.
Born in Canton, Ohio, during the 1940s Gibson studied at the Cleveland School of Art and Carnegie Mellon. In 1951, she graduated with an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago. After graduation she continued her studies in Europe as well as doing post-graduate work at the EBA School of Art in San Francisco. Gibson had several one-person shows in Florida, Chicago, and San Francisco and eventually settled in Indianapolis.
