Gabor Peterdi Signed 1972 “Surging Wave” Abstract Etching

A 1972 abstract etching by the Hungarian-American artist Gabor Peterdi (1915-2001). Titled Surging Wave, this abstract etching depicts a rushing wave made up of small rippling black lines. The piece is signed, dated, and titled along the bottom edge and sits in a silver tone metal frame and gray mat. 

Gabor Peterdi was a Hungarian artist who studied in Rome and Italy eventually immigrating to the United States in 1939. While in the U.S. he reinvigorated the art of printmaking establishing workshops at Hunter College, the Brooklyn Museum Art School, New York University, and Yale University, where he taught as a professor in 1960. He also wrote several books on the history and techniques of printmaking.
