A 1989 lithograph print by the American artist James G. Davis (1931-2016). Titled Profiles, this work was printed by the Tamarind Institute and depicts figures sitting next to a mural of a fish with figures riding an escalator in the background. Displayed in a black frame and a white mat, the print is signed and numbered 13/30 to the upper left.
Born in Springfield, Missouri, Davis became interested in drawing during his convalescence after surviving a train wreck at the age of eleven. Growing up in an orphanage after his mother's death, Davis dropped out of high school to travel the country during the late 1940s and early 1950s. After settling in Kansas, he studied at Wichita State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts as well as a Master of Fine Arts. Davis went on to teach at Wichita State, as well as at the University of Missouri and the University of Arizona. Davis's works are part of the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum of Art, among others.
