Robert Berkshire Signed 1974 “Homage to Turner II” Oil on Canvas Painting

$2,200.00

A 1974 oil on canvas painting by the American artist Robert Berkshire (1932-2010). Titled Homage to Turner II, this predominantly yellow work is an homage to the iconic yellow that the English Romantic artist J.M.W. Turner used in many of his paintings. Squares, arrows, circles, and x-shaped designs float amidst the yellow and colorful pastel mist in this abstract work. Signed, dated, and titled to the verso, the painting is displayed in a brown wooden frame.

Robert Berkshire, an Abstract Expressionist painter, was a scholarship student at Herron School of Art in Indianapolis where he later became an art professor. He studied in Italy on a Fulbright Fellowship and graduated with his master's degree in Fine Arts from Florida State University in 1958. Berkshire had a profound impact on the Indiana art community and is one of Indianapolis' most well-known painters. The Robert B. Berkshire Gallery at Herron School of Art and Design was named in his honor.
