Thom Shaw Collage and Abstract Marker Drawing

$1,500.00

A collage and marker abstract drawing by the American artist Thom Shaw (1947-2010). Four squares depicting men in various stages of putting on a tie are collaged onto the intricately drawn background. The background of the collage pieces are printed and the rest of the work is drawn by hand. Bright shades of pink, blue, purple, and yellow are emphasized in this piece. The work is unsigned, mounted onto white board, and displayed in a black frame.

Thom Shaw attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati and earned an MFA in printmaking from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He first worked as a graphic designer for corporations but left in 1995 to pursue his own artistic career. Shaw largely focused on printmaking and drawing, most notably his large scale woodcuts and drawings discussing the effects of systemic racism on marginalized Black communities.
