It was during this time that Stocksdale turned his first vessel on a lathe. After the war, he moved to Berkley, California and began exhibiting his work. His first solo exhibit took place in 1958 at the Long Beach Museum of Art. Stocksdale's works are held in the permanent collections of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others.
