Bertil Vallien Kosta Boda Limited Edition Flying Man Paperweight

A limited edition "Flying Man" paperweight designed by Swedish glass artist and design Bertil Vallien (born 1938) for the Swedish glass company Kosta Boda. A red figure appears suspended within an air bubble at the center of the paperweight. A blue plume appears above the bubble. Two additional red figures appear to float near a silver-tone dome at the base of the design. Marked “7172031 Kosta Boda Ltd. Ed. 500 B. Vallien” to the underside, the piece is also marked with a Kosta Boda sticker.
Bertil Vallien is a highly respected glass artist and designer. In the 1950s, he studied under Stig Lindberg at the art school Konstfack in Stockholm. Best known for his work at Kosta Boda, Vallien is celebrated for sand casted sculptures. Many of these sculptures have the repeated motif faces.
