Bertil Vallien Kosta Boda “Shelter” Glass Tipi

A Shelter glass tipi tent by artist Bertil Vallien (born 1938) for the Swedish glass company Kosta Boda. The blue tent has a silver roof and steps to one side. A transparent window at the center of the piece displays a figure within the tent. The blue glass transitions into red at the base of the work. The piece is marked “Kosta Boda B. Vallien 7091113” to the underside and with a Kosta Boda sticker.
Bertil Vallien is a highly respected glass artist and designer. In the 1950s, he studied under Stig Lindberg at the art school Konstfack in Stockholm. Best known for his work at Kosta Boda, Vallien is celebrated for sand casted sculptures. Many of these sculptures have the repeated motif faces.
