A porcelain Snake Charmer figurine designed by the Polish-American artist Lubomir Tomaszewski (1923-2018) and produced by Wawel. The delicate figurine is seated cross-legged while playing a flute with white with black detailing. It is marked “Wawel Made in Poland” to the underside.

Lubomir Tomaszewski graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in Poland before immigrating to New York City in the 1960s. He worked alongside established designers including Henryk Jędrasiak, Mieczysław Naruszewicz, and Hanna Orthwein. In 1963, his designs were exhibited at the International Exhibition of the Board of the Industrial Designers’ Association (ICSID) in Paris. Among his achievements is establishing an international art movement, Emotionalism, in 1994. Tomaszewski was part of 150+ individual and group exhibitions during his lifetime and was awarded highly.

Condition notes:

Minor wear. Small spot of discoloration in the porcelain on figure’s crossed legs and to underside. Some scratches and scuffs to the unglazed underside.
