A 1976 oil on canvas painting by the American artist Abbott Pattison (1916-1999). Titled Kristen, this painting depicts a nude female figure in a Fauvist color palette of red, yellow, green, and blue. The figure holds her arms behind her head and stands in a doorway in the center of the canvas. The piece is displayed in a black wooden frame and is signed, titled, and dated verso.
Born in Chicago, Pattison studied at Yale where he graduated with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After serving in the navy during World War II, he went on to teach at the North Shore Art League and the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as Maine's Skowhegan School of Art after he moved to Maine in 1993. Pattison's works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of Art in New York City, the San Francisco Museum of Art, as well as others.
