Raymond Mintz Signed 1956 Abstract Oil on Canvas Board Landscape Painting

A 1956 abstract oil on canvas board painting of a landscape by American artist Raymond Mintz (1925-2008). Presented in a wood frame, the painting depicts three sparse trees upon a parcel of ground. The trees rise from grassy earth and are grounded by a muted sky. The painting is signed "Mintz '56" to the bottom right corner. 

Born in Clifton, New Jersey, Mintz served in the US military during WWII. After the war, he studied art in the United States and Paris. During the 1950s, he began exhibiting his work in New York City including a having several pieces in a group show for new talent at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1951. During the 1950s, Mintz was represented by Paul Rosenberg, the famous French art dealer who was represented Picasso and Henri Matisse. In 1955, Mintz moved to France with his wife and then later to Greece and finally Ireland.
