A 1978 abstract watercolor painting by the American artist Al Bright (1940-2019). This painting is characterized by soft blue and green hues and subtle brushwork alluding to an abstracted landscape and sky. The piece is framed in a black wooden frame with white mat and is signed to the lower right.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Alfred "Al" Lee Bright was an educator at Youngstown State University for over 40 years. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in art education from Youngstown State University in 1964 and a year later in 1965, he graduated with a graduate degree in painting from Kent State University. Bright joined the faculty at Youngstown State University where he became the first full-time African-American faculty member. In 1970, he was also the founder of the University's Africana/Black Studies program, one of the first of its kind in Ohio. In addition to his teaching, Bright continued to paint throughout his life and his works are in the collections of the Butler Institute of American Art, the Harmon and Harriet Kelly Collection of African-American Art, the Canton Museum of Art, as well as others.
