George Coggeshall Abstract Watercolor Painting of a Figure

A watercolor painting by the American artist George Coggeshall (1914-1994). This abstract work depicts the faint form of a figure composed of a vibrant array of desins in red, blye, yellow, white, and black. Unsigned, the painting is estate stamped to the verso of the paper and displayed in a black frame and a white mat.

Born in Elgin, Illinois, Coggeshall served as an artist and illustrator for the Navy during World War II in the Pacific. After the war, he returned to Chicago where he studied at the American Academy of Art and the Mizen Art Academy. He went on to become a successful commercial artist working for Meyercord Decal where he had well known clients such as RC Cola, Nehi, and Phillip Morris.
