A 1990 woodcut print by American artist Gordon Mortensen (b. 1938). Titled Alix, the print depicts a nude female figure leaning against a wall in soft blue and yellow cross hatching. The piece sits in a gold tone wooden frame and off-white mat and is signed, dated, numbered 11/11, and titled to the lower edge.
Mortensen was born in North Dakota in 1938. He received a BFA from the Minneapolis School of Art in 1964 and attended the graduate program at the University of Minnesota in St Paul in 1969. At first a portrait artist, Mortensen shifted to woodcut printing, teaching at Saint Paul Art Museum, the Rochester Art Center, and the Minnetonka Art Center in Wayzata during his transitional period.
