A 2018 pencil study drawing of a horse by the Moroccan artist Guillaume Azoulay (born 1949). This drawing depicts a stylized horse, mid gallop, made up of colorful lines against a white background. Held in a black frame against a white mat, this piece is signed, dated, and marked “Etude TXDS” lower edge. A Certificate of Authenticity is attached to the verso.
Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Azoulay's family moved to Paris when he was ten and by the time he was a teenager, he was selling his art on the streets. Never studying art formally, Azoulay traveled extensively as a young person traveling throughout Europe and the Middle East. Eventually, he ended up in California where he still currently resides. His work is held in the permanent collection of the Musee du Louvre, as well as being in private art collections of His Majesty King Hassan II of Morocco, President Francois Mitterand of France, President Ronald Reagan, among others.
