Haku Maki “Poem 72-18” Woodblock Print

An embossed woodblock print by the Japanese artist Haku Maki (1924-2000). Titled Poem 72-18, this print consists of a white circle containing a yellow dot and black kanji-inspired star shape contained by a square blue outline. The piece is signed, numbered 68/202, and titled on the lower edge. The print is displayed in black frame and a white mat.

Haku Maki was a prolific Japanese artist of the 20th century. His birth name was Maejima Tadaaki but he selected the name Haku Maki in the late 1950s to go by. Many museums have Maki's work in their collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Portland Art Museum, Cincinnati Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Art Museum.
