A 1964 etching by the American artist Jack Levine (1915-2010). Titled Judgement of Paris, this print depicts the Greek mythological story of the same name where Paris of Troy is asked to choose whether the goddess Hera, Aphrodite, or Athena is the fairest. Signed to the lower right, the print is numbered 228/250 to the lower left and displayed in a black metal frame and a cream mat.
Jack Levine was an American painter who specialized in satirical and social commentary regarding class systems and authority structures in the west. Levine enrolled in art classes at the Museum Fine Arts School of Boston and received free art lessons from Dr. Denman Ross of Harvard University who recognized his exceptional talent. Unlike many artists of the time period Levine did not stray from figural subject matter for abstract compositions. His work can now be found int he collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. among others.
