James Cunningham Signed 1972 Acrylic on Canvas Painting

A 1972 acrylic on canvas painting by the American artist James Cunningham (1948-1991). This abstract work depicts a group of planet-like objects floating above a blue grid. Signed and dated verso, the painting is displayed in a silver tone metal frame.

James Cunningham was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and pursued careers in both art and science. He enjoyed making sculptures, paintings, theater sets, and more, completing an artist exchange at Rio Grande do Sul in the 1980s. Cunningham was killed in a helicopter crash in 1991.
