Mark Bulwinkle 1970s “Little Housey” Ceramic Tile

A 1970s ceramic tile, titled Little Housey by the American artist Mark Bulwinkle (born 1946). The tile is in the shape of a yellow and blue house with smoke blowing out of its chimney. Mounted on a black wooden panel, this piece is unsigned and held in a wooden frame and titled to the tile's lower edge.
Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, Bulwinkle studied at the University of Pittsburgh as well as the San Francisco Art Institute. He learned welding while living in San Francisco and worked as an industrial welder at Bethlehem Ship Yards until he became a full time artist in the 1980s. Bulwinkle is considered part of the West Coast Funk movement, an art movement that was in reaction to abstract expressionism and its non-objectivity.
