Mark Bulwinkle Studio Pottery Tea Cup Tile

A studio pottery tile by the American artist Mark Bulwinkle (born 1946). This tile black in color and features the stamped image of a saucer and tea cup with steam rising from it. The verso of the tile is stamped "Bulwinkle."
Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, Bulwinkle studied at the University of Pittsburgh as well as the San Francisco Art Institute. He learned welding while living in San Francisco and worked as an industrial welder at Bethlehem Ship Yards until he became a full time artist in the 1980s. Bulwinkle is considered part of the West Coast Funk movement, an art movement that was in reaction to abstract expressionism and its non-objectivity.
