R.C. Gorman 1989 “Story Teller” Limited Edition Vase

A 1989 limited edition vase, titled Story Teller by the Navajo artist R.C. Gorman (1931-2005). This vase features three women seated and dressed in colorful clothing on each side of the exterior with a gradient taupe backdrop. There are small patches of grass between each woman. This piece is signed, numbered 144/200 to the lower edge as well as signed, dated, titled, and numbered to the underside.
Born in Chinle, Arizona, Gorman grew up in a traditional Navajo hogan where he learned about his family's artistic lineage and inspired him to pursue art. After serving in the US Navy, he studied literature and art at Norther Arizona University and later went on to study at Mexico City College where he was inspired by the art of Diego Rivera. He had his first exhibition in 1963 and continued creating and exhibiting his art for 42 years.
