Walter Stomps Abstract Gouache Painting

An abstract gouache painting by the American artist Walter Stomps (1929-2020). This work depicts an array of red and blue ellipse shapes floating against a background of yellow and purple brushwork. Signed to the verso of the paper, the painting is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and a white mat.

Walter Stomps, Jr. was a modernist artist who explored the connectivity through music and art in his work. He rejected the rigid nature of realism, instead using color, shape, and rhythmic brushstrokes to create abstraction.
