Ana England 1991 “Essential Equation” Division and Equal Sign Ceramic Wall Sculpture

A 1991 set of ceramic wall sculptures by the American artist Ana England (born 1953). From her “Essential Equation” series, this wall sculpture depicts a division and equal sign with a gunmetal gray glaze. Unsigned, the pieces have notches in the back for hanging the pieces flush with a surface.

England studied ceramics at San Jose State University where she graduated with her graduate degree. She went on to teach at Northern Kentucky University, where she is now professor emeritus. England has exhibited widely throughout the United States, including a solo show at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Her work often focuses on our relationship with the natural world.

20.5” W x 4” H x 1.75” D (each bar); 6” W x 6” H x 2.5” D (each dot). 

Condition notes:

Some paint chips around edges of pieces. White paint around the edges. Minor discoloration to one of the ceramic bars. Glue residue to verso. Other signs of wear.
