A 1989 studio pottery sculpture by the American artist Gerald G. Boyce (1925-1999). Signed to a ceramic piece adhered to the backside, the mixed media sculpture is comprised of ceramic piece made to look like wood with bone, and textile materials making up the dimensional elements of the work. The entire work is one piece with the base attached to the sculpture.

Born in Embarrass, Wisconsin, Boyce graduated with an undergraduate Science degree from Wisconsin State University in 1949 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1950. He later completed postgraduate degrees from Indiana University, the University of Illinois, Oxford University, and the Americano Guatemalteco Instituto in Guatemala. Boyce had an extensive teaching career, mostly as the chair of the Art Department, as well as an art history professor, at the University of Indianapolis. He also taught at Fresno State College, St. John's University, Indiana University, and Wabash College. He exhibited his own art extensively and his works have been included at exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Chicago Art Institute, the Los Angeles Art Museum, as well as many other museums, galleries, and universities.
