A 1948 serigraph by the Mexican artist Felipe Orlando (1911-2001). This vibrant work depicts three figures composed of layers of biomorphic shapes and designs. Signed and dated to the lower edge, the work is from an open edition and is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and a cream mat.
In addition to being an artist and printmaker, Orlando was also an anthropologist and studied at the University of Havana. While in Cuba, he studied in the studios of the Cuban artists Jorge Arche (1905-1956) and Víctor Manuel García Valdés (1897-1969) as well as being a founding member of the art group Asociación de Pintores y Escultores de Cuba. Orlando later went on to teach in Mexico City at both the Universidad de las Américas and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. His works are in the permanent collections of Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum of Modern Art of Latin America in Washington, DC, the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, among others.

Condition notes:
Scratches and other wear to the frame. Some flaking off of the frame’s gilding. Discolored spot to the print center left. Toning to the paper as well as some buckling. Tape is present to the edges of the print but is not visible unless mat is removed. Small faint crease to the paper upper right. Other age appropriate wear.
